Lonely Living
Cover, inspired by Martha Stewart’s Living magazine
A parody of lifestyle magazines, this one for lonely people. Where most lifestyle magazines are aspirational, the goal of this satire is to showcase a hard truth instead. It includes a photo essay, an “interview” with John Cheever, and data visualization article about loneliness in the United States population. I wrote and photographed most aspects of this magazine. The text for the data visualization story came from the US Surgeon General’s report on loneliness, for which I made the graphics in Lonely Living. The Cheever “'interview” was conducted via his journals, from which I excerpted portions on loneliness, and then wrote questions and structured a conversation around them.
